On January 12, 2024, the Marysville Secretary/Clerical Chapter (union) an affiliate of the Public School Employees of Washington, and the Marysville School District (employer) jointly filed a unit clarification petition requesting to amend an existing bargaining unit certification to reflect the exclusive bargaining representative’s name change. The union recently changed its name to the “Office Professionals of Marysville School District” to more accurately represent the work the bargaining unit employees perform. The parties request that the certification be amended to reflect this change. The union represents a bargaining unit of employees in the general job classification of office personnel. The request is granted.
A party may file a petition to amend an existing certification. The executive director may amend the certification if the purpose of the amendment is to reflect a name change of the labor organization, the bargaining unit is not affected by the change, and there are no questions concerning representation. WAC 391-35-085.
Here, the union’s petition merely seeks to amend the existing certification to accurately reflect the union’s name. The parties agreed to update the bargaining unit description to correctly reflect the current structure. The bargaining unit’s structure has not been altered, and the petition does not include a question concerning representation.
ORDER
The bargaining unit certified in Marysville School District, Decision 7973 (PECB, 2003) is amended to reflect that the certified bargaining representative has changed its name to the Office Professionals of Marysville School District. The amendment to the certification issued in this proceeding does not give rise to a new “certification bar” year under RCW 41.56.070 or WAC 391-25-030(2).
