James David, Attorney/General Counsel, Fraternal Order of Police, for the Long Beach Police Officers Association.

John Honts, Vice President, for Teamsters Local 58.

David Glasson, City Administrator, for the City of Long Beach.

On January 3, 2023, the Long Beach Police Officers Association/Washington Fraternal Order of Police filed a petition with the Public Employment Relations Commission, seeking to replace Teamsters Local 58 as the exclusive bargaining representative of employees at the City of Long Beach. The bargaining unit is described as:

All full-time employees of the City of Long Beach Police Department, excluding the Chief of Police.

City of Long Beach, Decision 4508 (PECB, 1993).

On January 4, 2023, Teamsters Local 58 filed a written disclaimer of all representation rights concerning the bargaining unit, effective immediately. Based upon Teamsters Local 58’s disclaimer, further change of representation proceedings are not necessary.

ORDER

Teamsters Local 58’s request is granted. The certification issued in City of Long Beach, Decision 4508 (PECB, 1993) is withdrawn. Teamsters Local 58 no longer represents the bargaining unit, and the case is closed.
